TILLIE HUBER RECEIVES HARBINGER AWARD
Culver City, CA August 20, 2005 The Quality Life Association (QLA) honored Tillie Huber, RN, with the 2005 Dr. William O. Barnett Harbinger Award. The award was given at the organization's annual convention, which was held in New Orleans, Louisiana. The convention is used as a time for patients, the family of patients and doctors to congregate and further education on BCIR and continent diversion surgeries.
The award is named after Dr. William O. Barnett, the doctor who improved the lives of ostomy patients through a surgery known as the Barnett Continent Intestinal Reservoir (BCIR). In the spirit of Dr. Barnett, QLA gives the annual Harbinger award to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the QLA. Huber received the award for her volunteer work with the organization. Huber has been a QLA member since 1990. Huber is the Ostomy Coordinator at Brotman Medical Center in Culver City, CA. Brotman is one of handful of medical centers in the nation to offer a Continent Ostomy Program, under the directorship of Dr. Don Schiller, which draws patients to Culver City from around the country.
The Quality Life Association is a non-profit organization that strives to educate people about the BCIR and other continent diversion surgeries. QLA also accommodates the complex needs of patients, helping them to live a quality life.
