David (Had BCIR Surgery in August 1993)

I was nervous about intubation, but found that it is not a problem. After surgery, I found intubation to be a very easy process. My concerns about it were not a problem at all. I intubate four, five or six times a day and I never worry about where a restroom is. It's not a problem at all.
I'm a runner and when I was running prior to having the BCIR surgery, I was constantly repairing the bag after my run. The repairs were due to different factors including sweat. But, after the BCIR surgery I never had that problem again. I have experienced pouchitis a couple of times since my surgery in 1993. It has never been more than the inconvenience of a cold. It came and went, and I moved on with my life.
There is a freedom we now have as a family. We can do things together.
Following surgery there was a very special time, something I had hoped would happen. I remember when I was able to get up and get around, looking in the mirror and not seeing the bag hanging from my waist. That made me feel whole again. It was a wonderful time.
