The BCIR Difference
Clinical Studies

The Barnett Continent Intestinal reservoir is a self-sealing internal pouch modified by William O. Barnett, M.D., F.A.C.S., from the Kock pouch.

The external opening, called the stoma, is elliptical or button-hole in design. There is no projecting spout as you would have with a conventional ileostomy. The opening is covered with a small adhesive dressing. The drawings shown illustrate the small BCIR stoma and the adhesive dressing.

Because the BCIR stores waste internally you control disposal by deciding when and where to empty the pouch. Of 423 patients surveyed, 76% reported the quality of their life after the BCIR was much better.
